MRS. MCCONNELL

CLASSROOM POLICY

Homework:
    Learning mathematics requires DOING mathematics. For this reason, homework will be assigned and collected almost daily. The more effort you put into your homework, the better your understanding (and your grades) will be.

Please note the following:
 Homework is your opportunity to express what you have learned in your own words. Write notes in the margins to yourself explaining the processes. Show all of your work clearly and accurately. Avoid skipping steps. By putting extra time into your homework, your test preparation time will be drastically reduced!
 Credit for homework will only be given when work is shown to back up the answer.
 You are expected to follow the directions to the problems. If you do not follow the directions as stated, your answer will be considered incorrect.
 Please highlight or, at least, circle the answer to each problem.
 Answers are always to be expressed in lowest terms. This means fractions and radicals must be simplified every time – no matter what the answer is in the back of the book.
 Fraction answers are always preferred. However, if a decimal number is required, round to the third decimal place, unless otherwise indicated.
 You will be expected to remember and apply all previous concepts taught to you by Mrs. McConnell and by your past teachers. YOU are responsible for remembering what YOU have learned!!
 In accordance with school policy (Section K of the Student Handbook):
A student who comes to class without assigned work and who has not been absent the previous day receives a zero for that assignment.

Homework grades will be updated by noon each Thursday. Work submitted after noon on Thursday will be updated by the following Thursday,

Quizzes:
    Weekly quizzes will be given to review the skills and/or notes covered over the week. They should require no more than 10 minutes of class time and will not, necessarily, be announced. A student that misses a scheduled test or quiz should expect a different version of the assessment which might include essay questions.

Tests:
    Expect 2 or 3 tests per nine weeks. If a class has 100% participation on the day of the test, one percentage point will be added to everyone’s final test score. You are expected to answer all test questions during the class period. No additional time will be given to complete tests unless the appropriate documentation is filed in the guidance office. A student that misses a scheduled test or quiz should expect a different version of the assessment which might include essay questions.

Projects:
    A quarterly project will be assigned. These projects will build on a particular theme for each course. The directions and due date for the projects can be found on the course web page. Students are encouraged to place their best project in the portfolio for each year. Each project grade will count as 10% of the quarter grade.

Grade Calculation:
First Quarter:
Summer Math = 10%
Homework = 10%
Quizzes = 25%
Tests = 45%
Project = 10%

2nd, 3rd, 4th Quarters:
Homework = 10%
Quizzes = 35%
Tests = 45%
Project - 10%

Semester:
Each quarter - 40%
Semester exam = 20%

Homework Grade:

Algebra 1 Homework Grades will be the percentage earned using Webassign after turning in the completed work on paper.

Non-Webassign and Pre Calculus Homework Grades:
Percent Correct:                Grade:
≥ 80%                                       5/5
60% - 79%                               4/5
40% - 59%                               3/5
20% - 39%                               2/5
≤ 20%                                        1/5

The instructor will determine when the appropriate amount of work was shown. As a rule, when the instructor models steps to working a particular problem, the student should also use those steps on that problem type.
