CAO
Some Activities and Goals
CAO organizes lectures and workshops that enhance and expand the variety of art related events offered at Chaffey College. For example, Behind the Scenes at the Wignall where curators discuss the process of developing an art exhibition, a workshop on How to Write a Great Artist's Statement, and workshops by faculty and CAO members on learning a new art making technique.
The Chaffey College Art Department and Chaffey Art Organization awards a scholarship each year to a student with the ability and interest in writing about the visual arts in The Breeze. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in a career in writing and/or the visual arts.
Each semester in cooperation with the Associated Students and Student Activities a chartered bus trip is taken to a Los Angeles area art museum. Past trips have been to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2006), the Getty Center (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (2007), and the Getty Villa in Malibu (2009). Keep an eye on our upcoming events for dates and information.
CAO hosts periodic free film screenings. The films touch on a variety of themes relevant to the visual arts. For example, CAO screened the new season of Art:21. Each film is accompanied by an introduction and discussion. Titles, locations and times are listed under upcoming events.
A central goal of CAO is to create a community of students and professors that will function as a resource for students on their path toward a career in the visual arts. Mentoring and advising are important features of any student's academic growth and discovery. CAO provides a necessary point of focus for promoting discussion, distributing information, and answering questions.
