The Turkey Hunter
Dick Alford gained his nickname “Walkin’ Eagle” by being in the right place at the right time. Over the last 30-plus seasons he has hunted the birds in 17 mainland states, Hawaii and New Zealand. In his travels, all types of turkey habitat have been hunted providing Alford with over 200 turkeys. Credited with multiple gobblers from each of the four grand slam species Walkin’ Eagle has several record book birds to his credit.
In addition to his hunting success, Dick has written six books, produced a video and made calls and other folk art geegaws for turkey hunting.
As a former high school teacher and administrator, Alford has continued as a featured speaker at turkey hunting seminars, clinics and on radio and television. In addition to his public speaking engagements, he has introduced a Youth in the Outdoor Program to his home area of Mound, Minnesota.
Dick believes that the ability to turn personal knowledge of wild turkey behavior into wisdom to predict what the birds will do is the key to turkey hunting success.
