Interview with Quick Magazine...

Describe your style as a singer-songwriter: Pop-Jazz-Blues-Folk with a hint of Country! One fan described it as a deep, mellow mixture of Carole King and Diana Krall - what a compliment! Scoring for film/TV is a whole different story though. It’s always different depending on the vibe of the content. It’s fun to crawl out of my “comfort” zone and create something that I wouldn’t necessarily perform myself.

What has influenced your music the most?: I grew up playing classical piano, but turned my focus to pop as a teen. I “accidently” became a lounge singer to put myself through school, and after that, went on tour with a top-40 R&B cover band for a few years. Also, my parents were huge country music fans, so having listened to that throughout my childhood, my songwriting instinctively has those conversational lyrics that lots of folks seem to relate to, which isn’t always a good thing because my songs tend to explore the darker sides of love... I think after playing so many genres, my songwriting became sort of an eclectic combination of styles that ended up being my own.
How did you become the singer for ShockWave?: Throughout high school and college, I hustled to book my own gigs, but it was taking up a lot of my time, so I started sending demos out to talent agencies. I was signed on with Blankenship & Assoc., who had a group called ShockWave, a pop cover band, looking for a new lead vocalist...

What inspires the ideas behind your songs?: Well, they don’t all come from personal experience... For instance, I wrote “You Lied” after reading about a woman in my hometown who lost her husband in Iraq. What’s not in the song is that when they came to her house to give her the news, she wasn’t home, so they went next door to leave word with her neighbor, without knowing that her neighbor’s husband was also a soldier in Iraq! That song ended up being a lyric winner in American Songwriter Magazine, which was really exciting!

You are also involved in the film industry?: Yes, I enjoy (almost) everything about the entertainment industry! Acting, writing, scoring film... it’s the creative process that excites me! As an actress, I’m represented by The Horne Agency in Dallas, Texas. One of my favorite roles was a country club hussy named "Whitney" for the Lifetime television series INSPECTOR MOM (Mother Goose Murder) with Danica McKeller (“Winnie” from “The Wonder Years”).

I’m also the Creative Director for Creative Advancement and a film screener for the AFI Film Festival.
