One day, when i was 16, puttering around my corner of the basement in my parent’s house, I stopped suddenly to listen to the sound of the TV in the next room. I ran to the TV. I saw a guitarist dressed all in black leather, sitting on a high stool singing the blues. I was mesmerized. the next day i bought the record: Source Point, by John Hammond. One of the best records ever made.
When people visit my garage, they can put their feet up , have a bourbon (I offer only Maker’s Mark) or a beer (perhaps a Guinness, no crappy beer is allowed) and listen to vinyl such as this.
That was 1971 when i stood in front of that TV. I’ve never heard any part of that record played in the U.S. or Canada.
On one of the leading discography websites, you can see all of John Hammond’s LPs except Source Point. The website hosts offer anyone a chance to review the record next to “no photo available.”
It’s my hope, in Jim’s Garage, to offer up things of value that get lost or ignored or overlooked. put your feet up, enjoy.
