I’ve always loved sports cars, old ones, modern ones, I only ask that they are unique. I’m not a muscle car guy, I never have been, while going really fast in a straight line is lots of fun, not having to brake when you get to the corner is very much better in my opinion. Earlier in the year I wanted to replace a car that I owned years ago, a Porsche Boxster. I started talking it over with my wife and I got the look that so many wives give their husbands when they say say they want to buy a Porsche. Actually it wasn’t that bad, she agreed with the idea, didn’t understand it, but agreed. Then I started looking around for perfect car, and found it. A 1960 something AUSTIN HEALEY SPRITE!!!! It had everything the Porsche had only smaller and lesser. It was much classier, had a very nice exhaust note, and not only that but it came with tools, and things to do and learn. Like, how to weld, very cool. How to find parts for a forty something year old car, even better! Then instead of the look that I got when I said I wanted to buy a Porsche came the look of, “You’re so cool”, this car had everything!
Welcome
So who do I think I am to undertake such a project? After school I made my living as a mechanic, I did everything from pulling engines to troubleshooting drivability issues to electrical work. I did it all except body work. But I’m not scared, how hard can it be? Today we have the internet, I can read, and I’ve almost always been able to learn what ever I need to get done what needs to be done.
I hope you enjoy the site, and if you’re building a Sprite also, I hope you’ll post your learnings along the way as well.
