Africa - 2007
Best Friends
Patti and I have been friends for 35 years. We have astonished people of many lands with our silliness!
This website shares the fabulous trip that my best friend Patti and I (Jill) had to Africa in April of 2007.
Since I refuse to sit upright for over 36 hours, we traveled in First Class. Immediately upon being seated we began to eat. Eat, sleep, movies on demand, music, snacks, chair that lies flat in a comfortable bed, games, more food and, of course, sleep! Comfortable sleep! This continued non-stop from LA to Zurich where we had a 2 night lay over. The eating continued as we toured the city by cab and taxi boat. It was early spring and the bulbs were beginning to show themselves.
Then off we flew to Johannesburg, South Africa (still in first class of course!) where we changed planes and were flown to Maun via Air Botswana (that’s a whole different animal from International First, lol!). From Maun we boarded a very small little plane that would fly us into the Okavango Delta, Botswana where we would begin our adventure at Lions Camp. During the flight all we saw below was flooded waterways and wetlands. Beautiful fluffy clouds and blue skies.
When we landed, it was on a tiny dirt strip where we were met by a driver from Lions Camp. We hadn’t traveled more than a few feet when suddenly we see a giraffe!
When we left Lions Camp, our next stop was Kings Pool then on to Victoria Falls and Cape Town. The details follow.
However a short note is necessary as shortly after we arrived in Vic Falls at the amazing Stanley Livingston Hotel, I fell down some steps while carrying my camera and computer and seriously scraped my shin. Luckily I still had my video camera but the Canon was toast and no where to fix it nor purchase another at a reasonable price!
Many of the pictures you’ll see here are stills from the video, but at least I had that! So read on and I hope you enjoy this adventure half as much as Patti and I did! (See links top of this page).
