2006 Gaucho Mike Elkerson (San Clemente H.S.) leads Abilene Christian University in several offensive categories after 28 games. Rightfielder Elkerson is hitting a team leading .431, with 50 hits, eight home runs, and 40 RBIs. Teammate Matt Spotanski (also from Saddleback 2006) is starting in centerfield and hitting .348 with 39 hits. Matt lead ACU in hitting last spring. Another 2006 Gaucho, Jon Townsend, had a hit and two RBIs to lead the University of Florida in Tuesday’s victory over No. 3 ranked Florida State. Third baseman Townsend has played in all 18 games and is second on the team with three home runs. Also, 2006 Gaucho Pat Ferguson, is second in hitting at North Carolina State with a .318 average. Ferg has played in all 16 games at first base.
2007 Gaucho, Chris Auten, is second on the team in hitting at New Mexico State with a .356 batting average which includes three home runs. He has started every game at first base.

2007 Gaucho Chris Auten was New Mexico State’s second leading hitter as he finished the year at .365 with 92 hits and 10 Home Runs. Auten played in 60 of 61 games. Fellow ’07 Gaucho Brennan Thorpe was University of Portland’s Sunday starter the second half of the season. He finished with a 2-3 record, pitching 62 innings in 12 starts. Another ’07 Gaucho, Rylan Ostrosky, finsihed the season with a 3-2 record at Wright State. Ostrosky pitched in 42 innings, and had a 3.61 ERA. D.J. Leffler (’07) appeared 15 games for the University of Tennessee. His record was 1-1. Pat Ferguson (’06) is currently North Carolina State’s second leading hitter at .325. Ferg has played in 53 games at first base and leads the team in home runs with nine. Another ’06 Gaucho, Jonathan Townsend, is hitting .283 at the University of Florida. Jon has played in all 56 games at third base.
’07 Gauchos Shevis Shima, Gino Aielli, and Costi Hinn have seen limited playing time at Cal State Fullerton, UCLA, and Dallas Baptist respectively. Brian Save (’07) appeared in nine games on the mound for Cal State Chico
2006 Gaucho Mike Elkerson is being touted as the Division II National Player of the Year. Mike led the 44-17 Abilene Christian team into the playoffs with a .421 Avg., 21 home runs, 111 hits, 86 RBIs, 70 runs scored, 19-20 in stolen bases, and a .771 slugging percentage. Fellow Abilene Christian outfielder (and 2006 Gaucho) Matt Spotanski played in all 61 games, hitting .337 with 69 hits and 15-22 stolen bases. 2006 Gaucho Joey Hamon led Texas A & M Kingsville with a .369 average and 75 hits. Joey caught in 54 of the Javelinas 62 games. Colin McCusker (2006) has made 14 appearances on the mound for UC Davis. Another 2006 Gaucho, Vance Otake, has come back from an injury to hit .296 in 30 games for Sonoma State.
