O to be in England now that spring is here...

This is the 16th century thatched cottage Daphne, Peggy and Jo stayed in during a visit to England in April. The weather didn’t co-operate and it actually snowed one evening. The warm welcome from the family we visited, the daffodils and the charm of the cottage we stayed in made up for the bracing weather.

Ivy Cottage

The cottage belonged to the Waller’s who stayed in our house in Ottawa last summer while we were at our Round Lake. They were visiting Singapore while we were in England. They also lent us their car which we used to visit family.

We first visited Ann Judd and her boys in Pampisford near Cambridge. The next day we had lunch with Dol, Des & Ellen, Mary & Paul and Irene. Daphne stayed with Dol overnight. The next day we picked Daphne up and went to the West End to see a musical, Guys and Dolls, then visit the Gordon’s Studio Club near Piccadilly.

Our next visit was with the Glover Family in Oxford - Edward, Jasmine, John and Frankie. We passed a lavish country home, Waddeston Manor, on the way home and decided to go back the next day to see it. We then drove down to Winchester to stay overnight with Gordon Hauser, Anne, Laurie, Jon and Will. While there we drove to Romsey to visit Joyce Hauser and Maureen.

On our last day in England, Daphne’s great-niece, Nicky Bowden and Andrew, visited us in the cottage.

You might be wondering how you are connected to the family members we visited. To help you I have created a family tree and included pictures I took on our travels.

All in all it was a great holiday.
