Project Description
The average temperature in La Crosse, Wisconsin drops to around the freezing mark on December 5, and stays at or below 30 degrees through February and well into March.  In cold weather, children don't go outside and exercise like they do in the warmer months.  This contributes to increased inactivity and unhealthy behavior. The Tundra Trekkers is a walking/running project with the goal of getting kids trekking the entire year, including the cold winter months when Wisconsin temperatures really are equivalent to those found in the real tundra.  Tundra Trekker students exercise together as a group, a minimum of 4 out of 5 days a week during a 30 minute resource class held during school, and they are encouraged to keep their shoes/ipod on for after school activities and PE class.

We will soon begin our scientific study of music and its impact on physical activity.  We started this activity by making predictions.  Our blog excerpts today are all about music and our thoughts about how it impacts our exercise.  We wonder if we will change our mind after we

Due to our

Getting in the Groove

It was a lot colder today than yesterday.  We registered in at 19 degrees.  At least most of us remembered our mittens today!  A class discussion revealed that almost everyone was able to walk farther than yesterday.  We had an incredible amount of student success today!  One of the most exciting things about this project was the number of parents that decided to get involved!  Parents went
