Introduction to Fly Fishing and Fly Tying Classes 2009
Fox Valley Technical College, in collaboration with Central Wisconsin Trout Unlimited, is offering two introduction to fly fishing and fly tying classes that will feature a casting clinic, and an on-stream, guided, fly fishing experience. Fly Fishing and Fly Tying, Introduction meets(depending on which class you choose) Tuesday nights or Wednesday nights from January 13 or 14 through February 17 or 18 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Master fly tier, fly fishing instructor, photographer, biologist, and speaker, John Gremmer, of Winneconne, will be the instructor. Mr. Gremmer is past President of Central Wisconsin Chapter of Trout Unlimited and a retired leadership and biology teacher. He enjoys fly fishing locally for warm water fish such as Bluegills, Crappies, Bass, Northern Pike, etc., as well as cold water fish such as inland stream trout and migratory salmon and trout of the tributaries of Lake Michigan.
Approximately two hours of each class will be spent on fly tying. Remaining class time will feature equipment selection, fly types, knot tying, fly presentation, fly selection, fly fishing organizations, and where to fish. Additional features include fly fishing resources (books, magazines, videos, etc.), fly fishing the Internet, leader making, stream biology, hatch charts, casting technique, warm water fly fishing and “why fly fishing.”
An April, on-the-water, fly casting session and a May, morning of guided fly fishing on a local stream will be included in the class activities. Class fee is $78.72 for students under age 62 and $71.34 for students age 62 and over. All participants will pay a $25 materials fee(includes book and fly tying materials) and have the option of purchasing their own fly tying tools.
