Dan Parmenter remembered
Dan Parmenter remembered
It’s not often that someone can leave a lasting impression on people he has and has not met. Dan Parmenter was one of those people.
There is a tendency to want to forget tragedy, to remove it from our minds and go on with our lives. NIU has adopted a slogan that reads “Never Forget”. The Chicago Area Football Union (CARFU) has taken an extroidenary step in making sure one of its fallen is not forgotten.
Rugby is a brutally tough sport. The secret to success in Rugby is having teammates that will be there for you when you need them. You will hear rugby players on the field yell “with you” so a teammate knows where they are, or “support support” to alert them to someone needing help. Coaches like to say “know where your teamates are”.
On June 6th 2009 NIU Rugby player Dan Parmenter was honored by the Chicago Area Rugby Football Union by having the “CARFU Cup” for college teams to be renamed to the “Parmenter Cup” This gesture by CARFU and USA Rugby will ensure that Dan’s legacy will live on through the rugby world.
