A New Age Winter

…was what it felt like. No howling snowstorms or numbing cold. Instead, global warming  - we had no sub-zero temps - and early flooding. There wasn’t even enough snow to snowshoe, much less ski.

It’s hard to imagine a winter activity more low-key than snowshoeing, but we found one: winter hiking. Not winter climbing, mind you, but long walks along wooded trails.

We drank deeply of nature’s dormancy and found many opportunities to appreciate winter’s beauty, if not its might. Click the Photos link above for more.

Moody Pond

Carol and I hiked through the Garcelon Wildlife Preserve on a warm March afternoon to reach Moody Pond, one of Windsor’s hidden gems. The Garcelon Preserve, truth be told, is not particularly beautiful. But when we arrived at the pond, the snow at the edges tapering into a sheet of clear ice was a sight to behold.
