I haven’t posted in a while, as I wasn’t aware that some people were following my experiments! But I’ve had a few request from folks wanting to know how I was doing and I’m glad to annonce that....
I’m still poo-free!
Actually, these days, I’m even more hardcore as I haven’t “washed” it with anything since last wednesday so... 9 days ago. And it was a 50/50 water/vinegar rinse only. I’m going on a ski trip on monday for 3 days, and I don’t want to bring anything with me for hair care except my wooden comb and brush, so I’ll do a salt water wash on Sunday. I should be fine without water for three days after that, and worst case scenario, I’ll just rinse with water.
I wore my hair up in a french twist today, I admit it’s beginning to be a little heavy, and took it down only for pictures purposes... Sorry about the kinks in my hair. But it is very healthy (except my ends that were so damaged already), and I shed less now. So I guess it’s a good sign. And it’s great for all up-do’s, holds very very well. :)
Today, I’m having a little bit of flakes, I’m due for a 50/50 water/vinegar rinse. But i’ll do that just before my salt wash on Sunday.
So, here is my routine for roughly the last few weeks:
I quickly learned that with bad water pressure, it was better for me to rinse with the detachable shower head in my hand, head down. If I don’t do that, I get sebum build up and flakes. Yuk.
- I do one complete wash per week (average, I sometimes go longer). This includes scratching and massaging my scalp really well to loosen up dead skin (shampoo was taking care of that before), then rinse really well in lukewarm/cool water. Apply 50/50 water/white vinegar mixture to scalp. Rub very well. I let it sit there for maybe a minute, then rinse very well with warm water. My hair then gets all slippery.
Apply sea salt water to scalp. Scrub scalp very well. Rinse, rinse and rinse again with warm water. I finish with a mild vinegar rinse (1 tbsp white vinegar to 1 cup water), and I mix it with a chamomile/citrus tea directly onto my hair, as a rinse. My hair gets soft again. I then rinse really well with cool/cold water.
-If things really get bad flakes wise during the week, I do a 50/50 white vinegar/water rinse mid-week.
-If things are normal, I don’t wet my hair until they’re unmanageable and if I do, I rinse very well with cool water, spray chamomille/citrus tea on all my hair, rub my scalp well, let it sit there while I shower, then rinse with warm water, finish with colder water.
-I brush my hair well every morning and every night too.
Every time I wet my hair I put a small amount of jojoba/coconut oil onto my ends. Someone with good quality hair would not need to do that, but I do!
Gosh how I need a haircut/color!!! Still 4 months to go.... I’m waiting to be in Montreal to do that. My trusted stylist is over there, and I don’t trust anyone else!!!!
Oh, here is the ratio for the salt water wash:
1/2 teaspoon of organic sea salt to 2 cups of water. I find it less drying than baking soda. :)
