9.3 - TXBK 352-356; Oral drills 1-10 (SAM 196-199) and Written exercises 1-4 (SAM 204-206).
This is an important assignment. Be sure to prepare the 10 oral exercises.
Section 1: Talking about how one feels. Although you’re preparing only one section this evening, it contains much of this unit’s new information. Please study it carefully. What you’ll learn are the various ways of speaking about how you feel. Sometimes you’ll use a verb - Я чувствую себя хорошо. Sometimes you’ll use a short-form adjective - Она больна. Sometime you’ll use a form that requires the dative case of the person who feels ill or well - Мне плохо. And sometimes you’ll use a form beginning with “У меня...” - У меня грипп. There are even two phrases, at the top of p. 354, which just use the accusative case of the person either who feels nauseated or who threw up - Меня тошнит / Меня вырвало. (How pleasant!)
Read and learn all these ways to speak about how you feel. Then prepare ex. 9-8 through 9-14 in your TXBK.
In the workbook or Student Activities Manual listen to and practice giving your answers to these 10 oral drills.
Write exercises 1-4 on pp. 204-206 in your SAM. Turn in during class.

Thursday, Apr. 9
9.4 - TXBK 356-358; Oral drills 11-12 (SAM 200), Written exercises 5-7 (SAM 207-208).
Section 2: Хотеть, чтобы (+ past tense of verb). Learn how to say “I want you to do this or that.” You’ll say “Я хочу, чтобы вы + past tense of the verb.”
I want you to stop by tomorrow.
Я хочу чтобы, вы зашли ко мне завтра.
He wants me to leave.
Он хочет, чтобы я ушёл/ушла.
Prepare ex. 9-15 in the TXBK. Then do oral drill 11 (below) in your SAM. Write exercises 5 and 6, pp. 107-108 in SAM.
Section 3: Спрашивать/спросить vs. Просить/попросить. Here you’ll learn the difference between two verbs that can both be translated as “to ask.” One (спрашивать/спросить) means to ask someone a question. The other (просить/попросить) means to ask someone to DO something. Read the examples on p. 357 and prepare ex. 9-16 and 9-17 on p. 358.
Do oral drill 12 (below) and write ex. 7 on p. 108 in SAM, which you’ll turn in during class.

Section 5: Bringing: приностиь/принести and привозить/привезти. There are two verbs for “to bring.” One means “to bring on foot” and other other means “to bring by vehicle.” Read the explanation on p. 360 and prepare ex. 9-21. Do oral drills 14 and 15, SAM p. 201-202.
Section 6: Answering Yes-No with key words. Isn’t it interesting that in response to a question Russians will often repeat some word from the question to mean “Yes.”
Ты идёшь на концерт?
Иду.
Are you going to the concert?
Yes. (literally, “I am going.”)
After preparing ex. 9-22 in the TXBK, do oral drill 16.
