Bumper to Bumper is a CD with a very simple breathing and movement exercise series that can be done while you are sitting in traffic. Starting with an introduction to breath and the concept of “alert meditation”, this particular form of yoga uses a combination of focus and subtle movements to help relax, release tension, and wake up potential energy. The first track is an introduction for the listeners, tracks 2 - 9 are guided exercises and tracks 10 - 13 are fun and thoughtful instrumentals to make the commute fly by. Jen guides commuters through exercises designed to relax the areas that get the most aggravated by sitting for too long- the neck, shoulders, back and hips. Accumulated tension will be released and turned into something useful: potential energy.

Yoga in the Car

For many of us, this huge block of our precious time is spent in silent fury and frustration. Our mind races. We feel trapped. We worry. We feel inadequate and dehumanized. Some of us eat, talk on the phone, smoke, drink excessive amounts of caffeine and sugar, or engage in other slightly destructive, unsafe habits. Our temper simmers.
This accumulation of stress, sitting on top of a day spent in a chair, can lead to road rage; aggression refocused on our families, co-workers and friends; anxiety, fatigue; insomnia; and at its worst, over time, heart disease, cancer, depression and other diseases.
Do something about it now.  If you’re worried your commute is affecting you, you’re probably right.  Try yoga in the car, and take back your commute!
Yogablooms is committed to expanding the practice of yoga from the classroom to every day life. If you have a long commute, or experience anxiety or tight muscles while in the car, try this first-of-its-kind yoga CD!

"I do it on my way to work every morning. Mostly the deep breathing, the shoulders up to the ears one at a time, and then the shoulder rolling."

Stop Beeping, Start Breathing!
Scary facts and thoughts about long commutes

DOT estimates that aggressive driving has played a role in at least
two thirds of the 250,000 traffic fatalities that have occurred
        since 1990

	•	The average American spends 443 hours a year behind the wheel.

	•	Most of that time is spent commuting to work. Many people spend more time commuting than they have in allotted vacation time.

	•	Over 45 of those 443 hours- more than a full work week- is spent stuck in traffic.

	•	In Los Angeles, 1.5M commuters have a 35 min plus commute, 60% of this have a drive time b/w 45 and 90 min. Much of that time is in bumper to bumper traffic, moving as slow as 1 mile an hour for ten minutes at a time.

Safety note: Yoga in the Car is not about zoning out, or hurting yourself in a stretch. Driving is your primary responsibility here. We want you to relax and unwind, but we want you to stay safe. Stay aware, keep your eyes on the road, hands on the wheel, seatbelt fastened, and mind wide open. Practice at your own risk and practice wisely.
