Carbon Copy Cloner
Have you ever wanted a simple, complete, bootable backup of your hard drive?  Have you ever wanted to upgrade to a larger hard drive with minimal hassle and without reinstalling your OS and all of your applications?  Have you ever wanted to move your entire Mac OS X installation to a new computer?  Then CCC is the tool for you! *Note: CCC is not entirely compatible with Tiger - an alternative, suggested by some Apple folk is to now use the built-in capabilities in Disk Utility. Another Bombich software that might be of use is NetRestore.

From Raging Menace, SideTrack is a replacement driver for most Apple PowerBook and iBook trackpads. With SideTrack installed, your standard trackpad becomes a powerful multi-button scrolling mouse.

Spike - No matter what business you’re in, sharing text, images, and files over a network is part of your workflow. Spike, the network clipboard, makes sharing not only secure, but as simple as cutting and pasting.
*editor’s note: Let me just add -- this rocks for quick simple file transfer between machines on your local network. No logging into servers, etc., quick and simple. There is a multi-license discount, >5 copies at $5 a piece. A real bargain!

Also available at the CMU Computer Store are reduced cost licenses for MS Office, Virtual PC 7, Windows XP (to run in Virtual PC) not to mention the Adobe Suites. Check with CS Facilities for things like Office 2004 for your office machines. The department has a site license. Another good place to look for site licensed apps is at MyAndrew. You will need your Andrew Login ID and password to access this.
