What is “Recovery”?

Scott and I went to a banquet where a scholarship endowment was given in our names.  I was so happy we were able to go.  Scott was in a good mood, mainly because he was trusted to go into public.  And he did very well; although, we didn’t stay long.  We also went to church Wednesday night, a prayer service.  It was a group of people that knew us from having prayed for us after the accident.  It was a pleasant surprise.  And Scott really enjoyed it.  Again, we didn’t stay for the whole thing

Routine

Scott currently does better when things are familiar and predictable.  The problem is that there is nothing familiar and predictable about our lives right now.  We live in a little apartment and if we can, we go home on the weekends.  We can’t really be home all the time and drive into Austin.  I just can’t do the commute anymore.  It was on our commute when we were hit by the semi.  I tried it a few times a few weeks ago, and it was terrifying.  The traffic is horrible.  When we started

16th Anniversary

Scott’s parents took this picture of us last night.  It was our 16th wedding anniversary.  Gosh...it has been a year!!  And who knows what the next year has in store for us.  But I think that is the way with everyone.  It’s just that we all get lulled into thinking that life will go on as planned.  Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t.  But one can take a bunch of sour grapes and turn it into wine, I suppose.  I hope.  Things are getting better.  But brain injury is a monster...a

Loose Animal

“Loose Animal”--these are the words that Hubby used to describe himself in a recent email to his friends and family.  He, of course, means to be funny.  He is out of the hospital and starting to journey out into the world...he is a “loose animal”....as he says.  He painstakingly typed the email himself.  It took forever.  He can write and spell decently, but his hand coordination suffers due to the injury.  He tries to do 10 finger typing and it is a mess.  He has to use one finger key by key

A Gift

Hi!  hubby made me this tin, decorative mirror in occupational therapy.  He cut out each of the flowers and leaves, colored them, punched them with tin, attached them to a round mirror, and put a hanger on the back.  He wants me to hang it in my classroom.

He is doing well.  I just keep holding my breath and knocking on wood that his infection doesn’t return for the 4th time.  It is a stubborn one and he just finished his antibiotics a few days ago.  I’ve been trying to fatten him up, give
