The Joy of RSS
The Joy of RSS
If you know about RSS already, skip this post. But I have a feeling a lot of folks don’t know about it, or at least don’t use it, so here goes...
If you, like me, like to keep track of a bunch of blogs and if those bloggers, like me, have a somewhat erratic output, you may find that RSS makes your life simpler. The acronym stands for “really simple syndication,” in fact.
If you subscribe to the RSS feeds of blogs and other web pages that you like to read, your web browser can alert you when those pages have new content posted. In my case, I have one folder in my browser toolbar that holds RSS feeds of blogs and sites I want to keep up with. Just by looking at the folder, I can tell if any of those sites have new entries posted. It saves a lot of time and frustration pinging around between various sites, hoping that somebody has put something new up.
Jay of Ocellated has a nice primer on RSS here.
If you’re a Mac user, Safari is pretty easy to set up for RSS. If you can’t figure it our from the Help menu, e-mail me and I’ll give you what help I can.
Oh, and yes, I do have an RSS feed. You can find a subscription button on my main blog page.
