Large Munsterlanders are a pointer/retriever hunting dog that work upland birds and waterfowl. In Germany, they are also used on fur. In the house, they make wonderful family dogs, enjoy being with people, and are very good with children. In the field, they are all business.
In the field, they work closer than some pointers (about 50 yards, but can range out further) and quarter back to check on you. They have well developed chest muscles that allow them to drive through thick cover. Their stamina is second to none. They have a strong desire to retrieve the downed bird, whether on land or in the water.
