So, before you go take your Checkride and obtain that Private Pilot License, you have to take a written test. There are many methods on how people take these tests but I’ve found one that works well for me. As I’m going through the written test guide and answering all the questions, I circle the questions that I either completely guessed on or answered incorrectly. After I’ve gone all the way through the book I than start over but just answer the questions that are circled. After going through the test guide a few times like this gives me a good handle on being ready for the test. There are some websites that allow you to take some practice tests before taking the real thing and that’s not a bad idea either.
Now you’re ready to take the test... convince your instructor! In order to take the test you need to have an endorsement from an instructor. Keep your instructor updated on your study progress and ask questions as you come up with them. When your instructor feels you are prepared they can sign you off.
So now you’ve done all of that and need to find a place to go take your test. Hillsboro, Pearson Field in Vancouver, and Aurora are the closest Lasergrade Test Centers. Troutdale has a CATS Test Center that is very similar to Lasergrade. Lasergrade tends to like appointments a day or two ahead of time but CATS is listed as a walk-in test center. Follow the links below for numbers etc.
Here’s a few things to bring to the test...
E6B, calculator, plotter, student pilot certificate, endorsement to take the written test, form of payment required by the testing center, and pencils and scratch paper. Test centers usually have the pencils and paper but just in case...
Good Luck!
