A few years ago my good friend Louis Felix and I spent about 12 hours at Sid’s Tattoo Parlor in Santa Ana, California. We went there to get photos for a feature article in the Christian Research Journal about the ethics of tattoos.
Sid is a great guy, and his little tattoo parlor is a beautiful example of how faith can change lives. I was truly moved and inspired by the people that I met there that evening.
Here are some of the photos Louis took, some of the people we met, and some examples of the beautiful body art we saw.
One of the things that impressed me about Sid and his friends was that they did not start out as religious people. Sid met a guy who reasoned with him about Christ. Sid became a believer, and then a great wind of the Spirit swept through his life and community.
People’s lives have been changed for the better. They have left behind drugs, prostitution, gangs, and crime to live beautiful, colorful, creative lives. The marks of their faith are on their body, and they wear them proudly.

This is the opening spread of the Christian Research Journal article. The sleeves illustrate the prophesies of the book of Revelation.
This is Sid’s Tattoo Parlor in Santa Ana, California.
The word “Forgiven” is tattooed across this former gang banger’s back.
Faith in Christ allowed him to leave his past behind.
This girl wanted a tattoo that would remind her of God’s never failing love.
She chose Romans 8:38-39. A tattoo is the perfect medium for this scripture.
Work in progress. That’s Sid in the background.
These tattoos take on a whole new meaning if you look up the scripture references.
This guy said that the tattoo around his neck reminds him every morning when he shaves of what he’s living for.
A little dove to represent the Spirit.
