Samuel Rothbort originally worked in oils, painting nearly every subject conceivable in his self taught, impressionistic style. Among his most well known and prized works are those of Brooklyn and Manhattan landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes. He did many paintings of his Gravesend, Brooklyn neighborhood, Coney Island and Sheepshead Bay. He also would often paint from life on Manhattan rooftops or street corners.
