so, this one really isn’t about food so much, although ronnie and i did stop on the way to altamonte and had some chicken wings at zaxby’s, the latest in a long line of fast food places that aren’t anywhere near where i live. they have cherry fanta in the fountains. but i digress.

nope. we went over to bonkerz comedy club where pal tom rhodes was putting on a comedy show with some of his funny friends to benefit his little sister, laura.

ronnie was in town for a meeting, and he and i drove over. we met up with my brother doug, phil leppert and a couple of his friends, kenny preuss and scott townes. we figured there would be other people there we knew, and there were a ton. we saw tom’s brother john, janine dullmeyer-clark, mark wingenfeld, john forester, chris finch, david logue, tracy jacobs, reba yarborough, bill burgess and brett morton. we heard eve evans had stopped by to say hi just before we got there. shame to miss her. didn’t get a chance to talk to everyone, and there were probably more there that we just didn’t recognize. but the comedians were excellent and it was fun hanging around to talk to everyone afterward.

my favorite comedian, tom notwithstanding of course, was a guy named robert hawkins. he was a riot and if i ever see that he’s playing around here, i would definitely go see him again. he had a long, fairly complicated joke about the blue angels where the punchline somehow became the playboy mansion. it cracked me up.

then, i got home and read the weekend section on thursday and jim short, another guy from the show, was playing at the tampa improv this weekend. he was pretty funny, too.

when we took the above picture after the show, it reminded me of one from the night we got our key club charter in 1982 or 83. probably 83. before i found it, i was pretty sure there were at least 5 of us from wednesday night that were in the key club photo, and i thought it was possible that all seven of us were. but there were only four. see if you can figure out who is whom:
