One to One Laptop Program
One to One Laptop Program
2008
The State of MainE
Maine was having difficulty retaining students in their program because parents wanted their students to have the best and would move out of state to get it. One of the things parents wanted was access to technology. So the governor began an initiative for all students in the state in the 6th grade to receive a laptop. The program began in 2002 and an extensive 2 year study was done and here are some of the results.
80 percent of teachers said it made it easier to individualize their student instruction
90 percent of teachers said they could explore topics to greater depth
90 percent of teachers agreed that students were more actively engaged
2003 STAR California achievement test (Mathematics)
Table shows the increase in mathematics scores after one year of the one to one program. Just one example of increased student achievement when implementing a one to one program.
