My husband and I spent 14+ hours in a Budget rental truck (big one) this past weekend, taking my daughter's furniture up to her in Chicago. Somewhere in Kentucky I had a brilliant thought and the words just spilled out before I could stop them. "You know what I'm really happy about? Our kids have really good parents." Jon and I both laughed and then totally agreed. It was a moment of realizing blessing. Something about it was just right.
What a fantastic thought. Then I had a little "ah ha" follow up. No wonder God delights to give us good things and to be involved in every aspect of our lives. No wonder he shows up ready to forgive again and again, to listen to our problems and to comfort and encourage. THIS is why he has told us to pray... he actually likes to hear from us! HIS kids have a really good Father. God is parenting as it was meant to be.
So when we arrived Friday and Krista gave us a huge hug and said thank you ... we were blessed again. To see her happy in her new place ... blessed again. To see our other kids and be together for a little while ... yup, blessed again.
All of that translates to the sort of relationship our Father wants with us. It's stupid to try to be good enough or work hard enough to somehow merit his grace or his mercy ...
all we can do to bless God is to accept what he gives, be grateful and enjoy. His joy is to hang out with his kids ... doing stuff for them. That's flat out amazing.
