Janette’s PICTURES of AUSTRALIAN HISTORY

This resource is all about sharing the fascinating story of Australian History with your children.  Every child should know his or her own country’s history and these pictures (and coming stories) have been designed so that children will LOVE discovering it.  The characters, the adventures, the people, places and lessons of the past right here in Australia ...... their own country’s history!

This resource was inspired by a desire to share Australian history with my own children and a need for such a resource.  So, over the past few years I have researched, sourced, designed and illustrated over 140 black & white pictures from historical works to create timeline figures or scenes from our past.  Then composed rhymes and/or notes to go with each to tell the story.  These 35 pages when purchased are fully reproducible for colouring, enlarging, reading and learning within the home or classroom at the appropriate price (click on SAMPLE PAGES/PICTURES at top of screen).

The set of pictures is available to purchase in either in paper copy or on CD! ...... On CD you can view, enlarge and print from your computer.  Now parents, children and educators can share this subject together succinctly and in a clear and enjoyable way.  The idea is to work through, page by page, using the EASY LESSON PLAN that comes with the set.  It is packed with information and details that can be expanded through discussion and is suitable for all age levels.

There are also cameo maps right throughout so they can see what happened where and learn the geography as well as the faces of the people and the part they played.  Read and colour the pictures as they are, add to journals; or use with storybooks you may have, use them when you visit any historical sites as well.  DON’T FORGET to ask for the narratives that are NOW AVAILABLE too, the first three chapters of the upcoming book.

The set and narratives answer all kinds of questions like:  About the Aboriginal people.  What was it like to live in your town in the early days?  Who did the exploring and how?  Who fought over what?  How did we begin to achieve our own government and constitution?  Who built the overland telegraph?  What are the Ashes in cricket?  How did our bushrangers turn to crime?  What did our own poets say about our country?  How did Dame Nellie Melba practice singing?  These questions show the kind of range and engaging contact in the Pictures and book to come.  The book also has questions, discussions and activities to help with learning.

Janette’s Pictures has an engaging and entertaining style to open children’s minds and help them enjoy learning.  As well they are a multisensory resource, being pictures they give the children something VISUAL; through the colouring and cutting they are hands on and use the sense of TOUCH, and through reading aloud you engage the sense of LISTENING also.  This all makes an extremely effective learning tool and one which provides KEYS to unlock the learner’s memory.

In true Aussie spirit there are not only powerful men but intrepid and struggling explorers, bush-wise Aborigines, hard working settlers, dauntless women of spirit, kind and noble and also ignoble men, leaders, people of the arts, naturalists, inventors and much more.

SEE ALSO THE FIRST THREE CHAPTERS OF THE NEW BOOK (SEE MENU ABOVE FOR SAMPLE): Now available for purchase in a folder, entitled:  The Great Southern Land, an introduction to our unique and beautiful country; ‘Australians’ First, a peek into the life of the Aboriginal people before settlement; and Finding Australia, the stories of the brave and intrepid explorers that discovered this land.

“It is impressive to have each major historical event mentioned with a paragraph long note, summing up an entire book!” L. Crawford

Tour-Guide, Australian War Memorial, Canberra.

Just thought I'd let you know we received the CD and Narrations.  We printed off the pictures on 110gsm drawing paper which was very successful.  We may even bind it into a book as well!  My husband really liked them and when I explained how we were going to use them to colour and paste on a timeline for our family Australian History lessons he was impressed and said "I wish I could have have learnt about Australian History like this instead of our boring lessons".  So I just thought I'd let you know that I now have four children interested in our Australian heritage.

Tracy Clark

We have done a lesson already and we love it, I'm really excited about it and am definitely glad I asked for the narrations as well because they really helped me and are so well written.
