Site Council Priorities for 2008/9 Bryce Goeking stated that, in his opinion, a one year cycle to set Site Council priorities and implement them was not realistic and that a two year cycle would be more realistic. Other members of the Site Council agreed with his comment.
The purpose of the Site Council was reviewed, namely “to advise, support and assist in the planning, development, operation and evaluation of the school site improvement plan and all other duties and responsibilities assigned to it under the laws of the state of California.”
Post meeting note: Jane McDonough e-mailed Site Council members a summary of the 2007/8 action plan which is part of the school site improvement plan for information. This action plan has been approved by the Mill Valley District School Board of Trustees and includes activities which need to be implemented during 2008/9.
It was agreed that members of the Site Council would continue to ensure that outstanding elements of last year’s 15 Minutes to School Project are implemented. The following two actions were currently identified.
Action: Bryce Goeking to contact Jill Barnes at the City of Mill Valley, Department of Public Works (DPW), to find out when the following agreed improvements will be made:
Concrete sidewalk extensions into Throckmorton Avenue at the Old Mill/Cascade intersection.
Relocating the Lovell crosswalk at Summit westward, nearer to Old Mill School’s northern entrance.
Yield sign for Lovell traffic heading west through the Old Mill Street intersection.
According to the 15 Minute to School documents these improvements should have been completed over the summer.
Additionally Bryce will request Jill Barnes / DPW to make sure that vegetation is cut back on OMS routes in time for International Walk to School Day, October 8.
Action: Mary Anderson will edit the OMS Travel Plan which was circulated to the Site Council on June 12, 2008 to integrate the Site Council’s 15 Minute to School Project recommendations into the plan.
Action: Jane McDonough and Andy Mercy will meet to pull together Site Council priorities for 2008/9 as documented in the May and June Site Council meeting minutes.
Next Site Council Meeting: Monday, October 27, 2008, at 3:00 pm in Old Mill School library.
