the soda siphon
The Soda Siphon is an alcohol free cocktail bar run by the older members of the 23rd Sheffield Boys' Brigade Company.
It began about 7 years ago to support a project in Kenya that was concerned with providing goats and cows to help the villagers develop a programme of sustainability. Through our efforts we were able to send a donation in support of this.
After this original project we decided to structure our giving in a different way by supporting both a national and an international charity. So in 2007 we gave to The arc NODDY appeal, USPG "Children First" and "Building a Firm Foundation" and The Samaritans Purse "Turn on the Tap" appeal. Last year we supported The Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, a charity local to us, and USPG Mission Companions Programme in Brazil.
This year we will continue to support The Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, and begin our support of Palm in Palm a project to help address the difficulties facing the BB in Cameroon and to help them achieve their self-sufficiency goal. For more details follow the links at the bottom of the page.
The number of events we attend has grown steadily and we are now in demand. We have taken our bar to church fetes, school summer fairs, end of term discos, birthday parties and festivals in the Sheffield parks. The Boys' Brigade Firm Foundations Festival and The Boys’ Brigade Council weekend 2007 have also been highlights in our calendar.
Our menu now includes hot drinks; Hot Chocolate Delights with marshmallow and cream are a particular favourite. We use FairTrade products wherever possible.
Pop along and visit our Bar if you can - we’re confident you’ll not be disappointed!
