Delights and Shadows

So we had our “Level 2” ultrasound yesterday, meaning I was in the chair for nearly an hour while each organ and limb of our babies were measured. We looked at blood flow, brain matter, and aortic cavities. And of course we were highly interested in these details (after all, who ISN’T interested in examining an aortic cavity?), but meanwhile we’re completely beside ourselves waiting for only one bit of information. Well, we got it soon enough as the ultrasound tech calmly typed “B-L-U-E” next to...ahem...the distinguishing feature.
We moved on to take a look at the next baby, lovingly named “B” by the doctors and nurses. We looked at head, arms and legs and all the while Josh and I were staring hard, trying to see for ourselves what we could see so clearly with the last kiddo - no such luck - I was completely unprepared when I saw the letters “P-I-N-K” appear on the screen. I figured I might as well subject myself to a lesson in human anatomy and humbly asked the lady to explain further. Of course I would never say this but I was thinking, “Are you sure? Are you really, really 100% sure that it’s a girl?” She was.
Both babies are beautiful and beautifully healthy - weighing in at a whopping pound (boy) and 14 oz. (girl). Hearing the doctor say that our kiddos had passed all the various twin tests they run at this point in the pregnancy was the best news I’d heard in a long time.
So, there you go, folks - we’re shopping blue and pink the next few months.
