Looks like DRM is about to die a slow death - how long can it last? Not long according to Steve Jobs, he reckons that over half of the entire iTunes catalogue will be DRM free by the end of this year. DRM tracks will be priced at £0.99 in the UK and at 256 kilobits per second, that’s double the quality of current iTunes songs.

This is a good day for music, it’s a start in turning the tables back in favour of the consumer. Sure it would have been nice to see DRM free selling for the same price as before (£0.79 in the UK). And having to upgrade your current iTunes songs for 20p is bad news, why not just let us unlock them (EMI music tracks) via iTunes?

Now, if only there was an easy way strip out the DRM out of current iTunes songs.
