Phone: Nokia N95 Vs London! GPS Sat Nav

I always knew I’d be asking a lot of the N95 to guide me into the very centre of London. The streets are narrow, the buildings tall, and the N95 is not that fast as a GPS unit, I was nervous to say the least!

I had to get from Dorset to the Barbican Centre in the heart of London, I had no map, I had no idea where to go, I was completely at the mercy of this little silver device sat on my dash.

As we drove into London it worked perfectly, we even hocked it up to the car hifi and had it doing double, err actually tripple duty, playing AAC music files, working out the route and picking up the lates activities of Mark and Ricky on Twitter via SMS text!

Entering London, things got a little more scary. We were running late for the concert and the GPS kept on recalculating the route! There were several road diversions, so the little legendary Nokia device had it’s work cut out that’s for sure!

Despite all the recalculating and lost sat signal, the N95 actually worked! It got us into the heart of London and it got us home again . . . I honestly had my doubts at times, but no, it did the job. Thank you Nokia!

As an aside, don’t ever try to use the N95 as a aid to walking round a major city, IT DOES NOT WORK! Just get yourself a printed map and work it out yourself. (^_-)

Now, a word about battery life. As I said earlier, the 95 was playing music, navigating the route (display turned on the 70% of the time) and collecting SMS text messages the whole journey. It managed to do this for at least four hours before it kindly asked to be plugged in somewhere. Not bad, not bad at all.

I’ve never used any other sat nav device other than the N93 (with GPS unit) or N95, so I’d love to hear from an N95 owner who is experienced with sat nav.
