Despite the clear lead that the N93 has over the N73’s video recording ability and optics, many would argue that the N73 takes a better photo. In fact,I recently read on a forum somewhere that some still believe the N73 to be better than the N95 even!

The purpose of this quick test is to try and lay some of these strange ideas to rest, or not, as the case may be - I’ve chucked in the Canon HV10 for good measure.

Please understand that I have altered the colours and contrast a little on all of these photos. I’m not looking to find the fastest camera, or indeed the most instantly satisfying, rather, I’m looking to identify which camera phone has most potential.

One thing is quite clear, the difference between all these photos at normal screen resolution really isn’t that much. It’s only when you get a little closer that you start to see significant differences, and only when you examine the actually pixels that the true winner emerges.

The N95 holds a lot more detail than either the N73 or the N93. It’s cleaner and clearer - which is what you’d expect. The N93 and N73 are much more closely matched, but the N73 does indeed seem to produce better results. See for yourself, click on the images above to go to the Flickr set.

Of course the N93 has something that neither the N95 or N73 can touch - optical zoom. Hence,I’ve included a 3x optical zoom photo and a Canon HV10 10x optical zoom photo for comparison.

It’s safe to say that the N95 is the best camera phone Nokia have ever built. It’s not going to stop you wanting the latest DSLR, or even make you consider selling you’re current Kodak, but it is clearly capable of producing excellent images, and that, added to the other computer like abilities of the N95 make it an indispensable creative tool.

I wonder if the N95i will have optical zoom . . . (^_^)
