Nokia N93 Nokia N93i

Yesterday, I mentioned how pleasing it was to have continuous autofocus for video on the Nokia N93i. One of the other large improvements over the older N93 is in the field of photography.

Before I provide examples, I’d just like to mention that the N93 is not using the very latest firmware, so many of the improvements seen here may also apply to a N93 using the most recent firmware from Nokia.

Wave goodbye to noise, say hello to low light!
If you’re a Nokia N93 owner, you’ll already know that it’s afraid of the dark! Anything other than bright daylight produces some degree of noise.

The example photos below were taken in natural daylight (no flash), just after sundown.

On this first photo the difference is very clear, the shot on the right is the N93i - it is much cleaner, though it did tend to blow out the highlights a tad, favouring perhaps, to bring a bit more detail into the shadows.

Click on the photo above and check out the two highlighted boxes - look how messy the things get on the N93 in low light .

These photos were taken in very low light, in a shaded corner of the room, with only a slither of direct light from the nearby window. Again, the N93i is on the right, and again, it shows much less noise.

This test is not meant as conclusive evidence of the superiority of the N93i over the N93, there are still many issues to explore, not least of which is the over-processed look that a few of the N93i shots seem to possess.

Check back soon for more examples, if you have anything you’d like me to try out for you, just leave a comment below.687CB7E7-2B72-4EDD-BE18-23157B87F1E1.htmlshapeimage_7_link_0
