Apart from Google reader I've found the whole web app concept to be disappointingly dull. Today, that changed.
Adobe launched the browser based incarnation of one of the most beloved applications of all time. Photoshop.
At first glance Photoshop Express appears to be a slow web based version of iPhoto. However, dig a little deeper and several golden nuggets glimmer through the dirt. The 'Pop Color' effect is one such treasure.
'Pop Color' is a colour isolation effect, it desaturates almost the entire image leaving just one vivid colour untouched. The effect is much easier to grasp on video than by description, so if you haven't played the tutorial yet, please do so (Note that there is a much higher quality version on Vimeo). I'm planning a whole series of video tutorials based on Photoshop Express, so you might like to start uploading your best Nseries photos now in anticipation.
Previously I showed the bizarre effect of the Tilt-shift method and the wonderfully restorative powers of Duotone, but I think this new Pop Color effect may be my favourite so far, not least because it's doable on any modern PC or Mac with a half decent web connection.
Once again, I encourage you to go through your Nokia Nseries photo collection to see if you can find a photo or two that would be well suited to the Pop Color effect. It's best to pick a photo that contains one strong primary colour that would become more meaningful or poignant in isolation.
I created a Flickr set containing some example images.
Once you've created your masterpiece, please be sure to add it to the N95 or N82 User Group on Flickr!
