On paper the N96 blows the N78 clean out of the water, but now, a month on from my first play with both devices, it's the N78 that I find myself wanting to play with some more.
As a few industry watchers have pointed out recently, Nseries hardware is already advanced enough to cover the current needs of the average man/woman on the street. A-GPS, 3.5G, 3.2MP camera, big screen, capacious memory and FM transmitter, the N78 is proudly decked out with some serious hardware. But it's the software that will prove to be the more appealing aspect of the N78.

From Geotagging and instant photo sharing to the Tag Cloud and Maps 2, the N78 offers a whole host of software improvements in a reasonably priced package. If the styling proves to be popular, it's hard to see how the N78 can fail. One design choice that may split opinions is the keypad, is it a case of style over usability? This is what the N78 product manager had to say on the subject of the keypad.
"There is tactility behind every key, meaning that you get a positive click when you press the key. We know from research and experience that touch-sensitive keys can be frustrating to use, and we wanted to avoid that. But at the same time we wanted to create a sleek flat surface, so there are real keys behind that surface, as well as sensors. The experience is positive."

Obviously, I'm eager to see how well the camera performs, hopefully I won't have to wait too long as the N78 is due out soon. As Nokia themselves put it...
