N81: Actual Photo and Video Samples

Hands on with the N81. Now in glorious
HD VIDEO!

The N81 may yet turn out to be the refreshingly good music and gaming phone from Nokia, but it sure ain’t no happy snapper! For such a photogenic device, it falls way short of the N95, N93 and even the classic N73 as a camera.

Check out the samples below, both shot at exactly the same time, using the highest quality settings on both phones. The N95 shot is orders of magnitude better the N81’s photo.

To save you downloading the originals (which you can if you wish), may I present this close up comparison . . .

Note the massive difference in colour accuracy, the N81 photo looks almost as if it’s been taken in an aquarium! Also, of interest is the missing detail in the N81’s lackluster 2 mega pixel snaps. Actually, ‘snaps’ is a good way to describe the N81’s photos - perhaps in bright sunlight where detail is not so vital, the N81 might be just about passable as a quick snapper, but as a digital camera substitue? No, sadly it’s just not up to the task. Obviously, I should mention that the N81 we had the chance to play with at the LA event, was not the final product, so things may yet change for the better - at least, that’s what I’m hoping for!

The gallery also includes a brief video taken with the N81, which, as you might have already guessed, is not so great either. This really leaves the way open for the much discussed N82.
