Self-Defense: A basic human right
Not a privilege granted by government
Section 21 of the PA Constitution:
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned. ‘Nuff said
Please note that the above text is my official position on all issues related to self defense. I am adding this note to explain the brevity of this position, after receiving comments indicating that it may lack sufficient detail.
Perhaps some expect to read about practical arguments supporting the right of self defense. I could have included information about the 2.5 million crimes prevented with a firearm last year or other numerous statistics. I could have outlined the historical, global importance of the right of self defense or provided a list of the millions killed by their own governments, etc.
I left these out of my position statement because they are irrelevant to a state representative operating within the confines of the law. I intentionally made this as concise as possible to emphasize the only relevant issue: the difference between a right and a privilege, and how the right of self defense is protected from lawmakers by the Pennsylvania Constitution.
I love the clarity of these words, even hundreds of years after they were written: “SHALL NOT BE QUESTIONED”
Those subversives that would prefer that the government be allowed to determine how we protect ourselves, suggest a radical change in the people’s relationship with the state. Instead of the servant of the people, the state becomes slave-master. When the right of self defense is lost, so go the rest of our rights.
Sadly, some prefer the safety of bondage. Our own governor openly flouts the law, publicly calling for limits on self defense. He thinks state and city bureaucrats should be empowered to distribute the “privilege” of self defense. Can you imagine Ed Rendell or Mayor Street making the decisions about YOUR self defense? When enforced, our constitution protects us from these fools.
When elected, I’ll work to repeal every law that infringes on our rights. I will support impeachment or expulsion of any judge, lawmaker or executive who forgets the meaning of SHALL NOT BE QUESTIONED.
