A simple solution for huge problem: Scale back our state government to its size in 2004 and save enough to eliminate property taxes.
Our record high property taxes are particularly hard on those with fixed incomes. Many are forced to relocate when they become unable to afford to "own" their property, even though the mortgage was paid
off decades ago. Sheriff's sales and evictions can greet those that have paid into "the system" for a lifetime, but can no longer afford the rising tax burden. This is no way to treat the most experienced segment of our society. I have a plan to completely eliminate property taxes in Pennsylvania, without replacing them with any of the new taxes proposed by the incumbent.
What differentiates my solution, is that it does not require new “replacement” taxes like the ones proposed by the incumbent.
Current State Government Size: About $55,000,000,000
2004 State Government Size: About $44,000,000,000
Annual Property Taxes Collected: About $11,000,000,000
Many are stunned to learn that our state government is this big and growing this fast. Merely by scaling back our state government to its size in 2004, we can save enough to completely eliminate property taxes. We can do it without shifting the burden of bloated government onto wage earners, consumers or gaming customers.
All we have to do is turn back the clock on government growth to 2004. Of course, the special interests will tell you that we need more and more government programs, and the incumbent will propose even more taxes to pay for them. However, $44 billion is more than enough to fund authorized government services.
This is not property tax reform. This is REPEAL! This is how we can own our property again.
