Global Village is an international shopping site that is only open a few months a year presently. When all is complete it will be part of the much anticipated Dubailand. Unsure of what ‘Global Village’ actually was, we took a trip out there one afternoon. It is about 40 minutes inland from our house. Much of the area is still being developed, including this ‘park’. The concept is good but really needs updating.
To sum it up: Opens at 4pm (we didn’t know and got there at 3pm). Cost is 5aed each to enter (about $1.5). Shopping consists of around 20 - 30 different countries and their relative goods, divided accordingly with high school theatre style stage walls and facades. There is a ‘carny’ sections with scary rides and stuffed animal winning games, and a reptile house. The place is run down and borderline scary looking until the sun goes down which is when the place comes alive. Darkness and uplighting hides much of the old, cheapness and casts a very inviting glow all around making things looks awesome and interesting but the crowds are insane...
