Jackie Roman is a New York-based photographer specializing in rock and roll photography. She started taking photographs of local bands at the age of 13 during her upbringing in New Jersey, capturing the suburban angst of her surroundings, in the fire houses and VFW halls.  In 2001 she studied at the New School in NYC, and then went on to graduate from the Hallmark Institute of Photography in Massachusetts in 2003.  This is where she truly learned the craft and magic of photography and the many techniques used by professionals in the industry.  She was hooked.  Upon graduation she moved to Brooklyn and worked hard in equipment rental houses, as a photo assistant and a digital technician.  Always the avid music fan, she instantly found her place with the rock and rollers.

Today, she is a practitioner of the studied and conceptual portrait. Being so accustomed to living and working in the cultural epicenter that is New York, Jackie’s lens permeates the sub-cultures and small scenes that exist only to those in-the-know. She photographs the movers and the shakers of the independent music scenes wherever she goes, and her subjects are those who are creating the new variants of post-, -core, indie-, -punk, dance-, and -rock. Jackie Roman captures both the transience of local bands, and the glory of the few that “make it”. All is on record here, the musicians, venues, relationships, parties and shows, immortalized in her photographs.
