England's swimming pools could be free to use by the time of the London 2012 Olympics, says the government.
Over-60s are to be given free admission to public swimming pools in an £80m initiative, part of a bid to get more people involved in sport by 2012.
Culture Secretary Andy Burnham said future funding would allow free entry to under-16s, then to everyone by 2012.
Local authorities in England are to get £80m next year to scrap over-60s' charges, and a further £60m for refurbishing and maintaining pools.
In addition, there is set to be an increase of Olympic-size 50m pools from 23 to 30 by 2012.
The move is part of an attempt to have two million more people taking part in some form of physical exercise by 2012.
In Camden, the council already funds free swimming for under-16s during the school holidays and for over-60s in the mornings.
Free school holiday swimming will run from April 2008 to March 2009 and includes the Easter, summer half term, summer, autumn half term, Christmas and spring half term school breaks. The deal will allow all children under 16 to swim for free on weekdays from 10am to 2pm at Oasis leisure centre, Covent Garden, and 10am to 12 noon, 1pm to 3pm at Swiss Cottage leisure centre.
Free swimming for all under-16s is on a first come first served basis at:
