On Your Bike
SALES of children’s bicycles soared across London over the Christmas period.
A surge in commuter cycling is encouraging parents to get their children involved.
Sales of BMX bikes were very strong, largely due to this year’s Olympics. There was so much hype around Shanaze Reade. Parents are also becoming increasingly concerned about their child’s health, and see cycling as a great way to keep them fit, while having fun. Evening Standard
Camden Cycle Training Service  020-7974 5619 will run free sessions for children in schools aged from 10 upwards. They also train adults and family groups.
How Fit is Camden?
Camden Leadership Academy
Launch date Wednesday 25th February - Haverstock School 9.30 - 1.00
This exciting new initiative enables and supports schools to grow young people as leaders and deploy them as active volunteers within their school, in feeder Primary schools and in community club settings.
Aims
1. To increase the number, quality & diversity of young leaders who are actively engaged in school and community based volunteering
2. Provide a qualified & motivated work force for festivals and competitions
3. Increased workforce in Primary Schools to help organise and run out of school hours learning
4. Raising attainment within PE and School Sport through leadership
5. Work with NGBs, local clubs and schools to put on additional training for academy members. Increased club membership across borough.
What we hope to achieve
Year 1
All members of Leadership Academy
1. Registered with Step into Sport (SiS) which records/rewards their hours
2. Actively engaged in volunteering and run at least one lunchtime/after school club per week in Primary or Secondary or Community Club
3. Attend as many as possible ‘bolt on’ courses and then develop a variety of sport specific programmes
4. Aware of local career opportunities

NRA celebrates £2.2 million support from Sport England with a change of image

This is a huge 450 % increase on the previous funding, and reflects and rewards the positive progress made over the past 4 years.

Looks like there will probably be funding for a Star Centre in London - perhaps at the Hub in Regents Park - and also for a London Development Officer

Camden Girls and Haverstock schools both represented Camden in the Lady Taverners Under 13 Inner London Borough Championships on 13th January.
Camden Girls won and will represent the Inner London Boroughs against the Outer London Boroughs in the Middlesex County final on February 11th at Lords.
Haverstock won their league but were narrowly beaten by Mount Carmel School in Islington, who also go through to the final.

Coke verses Water
Is this really true?

You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.

To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the Toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes Stains from vitreous China.

To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of aluminium foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals

To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen Grease stains.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric Acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.
75% of us are chronically dehydrated.

In 37% of us, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.

Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters

Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of Colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
Sainsbury’s Top Activity - equipment
The SSP has been allocated £3000 of Sainsbury's Top Activity equipment.
This comes in the form of ten bags of equipment that will be based in each of the secondary schools.  It is hoped that they will encourage children at Key stage 2 who do not normally participate in OSHL activities to do so.
The equipment will hopefully engage Young Leaders to deliver alongside
trained staff.  SSCo's are currently being trained in the use of the
equipment and will cascade the training to their families over the next two
terms.
