Assessment - (use the core tasks)

Year 1
DANCE
Unit 1

•	Copy simple movements; explore basic body actions demonstrated by the teacher and respond to stimuli with actions.
•	Perform, practice and refine chosen movements into their own phrases with beginnings, middle and end.
•	Know where their heart is and understand why it beats faster when exercising.
•	Use simple dance vocabulary and talk about linking movements to moods, ideas and feelings.

Year 2
DANCE
Unit 2

•	Explore ideas, moods and feelings by improvising and experimenting with actions using stimuli. 
•      Link movements to perform short dances, 
•      Use simple dance vocabulary to comment on likes and dislikes.
•	Identify when their body is cool, warm and hot and know where there heart is. Know understand and describe how their body feels after dance and why they need to warm and cool down. Create own warm ups.

Year 3
DANCE
Unit 3

•	 response to stimuli explore and develop new actions working in groups.
       •       perform short dances showing awareness of others and describe actions
       •      Use expressive language to describe dance and suggest improvements.
•	perform a range of warm up activities
•	explain necessity of warm up/cool down
•	identify when we are warmed up
       •      know how to be safe and efficient

Year 4
DANCE
Unit 4

•	 Respond to ideas, created by stimulus, through movement.
•	 Use different compositional ideas and practice longer phrases.
•	 Describe dance movements using appropriate vocabulary and suggest improvements.
       •      Understand warming up/cooling down
       •      Devise routines of stretching exercises
       •      Know importance of fitness.

Year 5
DANCE
Unit 5

•	Create/compose and develop motifs, performing different movement patterns with style and accuracy.  Use appropriate vocabularies to describe different styles and suggest ways to develop their technique.
       •      Know how to warm up and warm down and how muscles work during exercise.

Year 6
DANCE
Unit 6

•	Select and use a range of ideas to create a performance using a range of controlled movements and patterns. Use appropriate language to identify and describe performance and know how to improve performance.

•	Understand why a warm up and cool down is important and why fitness is important in dance.
