Mr. Phipps’ Chem. Home

Chemistry is a central science.  A solid foundation in the study of chemistry provides the opportunity to explore a wide range of applied sciences.  You might engineer new materials, new medicines or  the fuels of the future.  You could study earth’s origins, address environmental crises, or improve the understanding of our genetic make-up.

In this foundational course you will review the methods of physical science in the laboratory with an emphasis on measurement and working with measured numbers and their uncertainty.  You will study the nature of matter and its behavior through observation and experimentation.  You will learn the language of chemistry to describe matter and chemical changes.  Throughout, you will examine the role energy plays in the nature of materials and chemical change.  Applications to environmental issues and everyday life will be included.

Below you will find links to resources that will aid you in your study.  This page is a work in process, so please e-mail me if you can’t find something that you think would be helpful.
