Sound Underground is a concert series dedicated to
exploring the works of contemporary composers, poets and artists.
From intimate chamber pieces to purely electronic music,
Sound Underground is a true multi media adventure.

The SuG founder and Artistic Director was listening to WPKN (89.5 FM Bridgeport, CT), a public radio station that airs a wide array of musical styles, when he thought, why not put the same variety into a live concert? In 2002, this idea grew into New Haven Worx, a concert series showcasing artists from Connecticut and New York.
The concerts took an anything-goes approach: electronica bumped against meditative string music and ritual Voodoo drums.  Featured poets and lighting design by Jamie Burnett rounded out the evening. This openness to experimentation has attracted diverse composers, performers and audiences. Now re-named, Sound Underground has built upon the success of the past while continuing to move forward. He enlisted the help of David Heetderks and Alphonse Izzo for the next few years, and then they went on their own paths. There are so many people to thank. All the past composers, performers, poets, folks at NMS, our loved ones and families, we thank ALL of you- and we’d like to thank YOU, dear listener/audience member...
without you, its debatable if it all exists in that compositional forest.

Please browse through the rest of the site, listen/watch some of the podcasts, take a look at the participants’ info, check out the past performances, and read the bios and notes included in the programs. There’s a lot on this site because we love what we do, we love the folks who give their time and energy to it, and we love our audience.
