Irena’s work is mostly utilitarian, and produced on the wheel, but bigger pieces are one-off and often slab-built. The smaller, utilitarian pieces are made in limited editions, but each piece is still unique.
The emphasis in the work is on the decoration, and shapes are kept clean and simple to act as carriers for the surface treatment.
Irena worked in France for seven years, and influences can be detected from the work of potters in the South of France. However, she is also strongly influenced by textile designs of the mid-20th century, and by the work of some of the artists of the St. Ives school.
She works from a studio in Suffolk, near to the coast at Southwold.
Details of where her work can be seen are given on this website.
