Phase 2 status report

Only a small handful of days into Phase 2, but let’s check my progress, shall we?
Friday: Went to opening night of Still Photos at my friend’s theatre company. It was refreshingly good! Fairly well-written and performed and a very sweet story. At the opening-night reception afterward, I spoke at length with my friend about becoming a company member and producing some of their shows next season. He and a few of his current company members welcomed the idea.
Monday: Attended the closing ceremonies of OutFest, L.A.’s gay/lesbian film festival. I went with a new L.A. friend, a screenwriter. Had some sushi at Zip Fusion (lovely seaweed salad) before heading over to watch Kiss the Bride. (Umm, the film was *fine*. The moral seemed to be centered around how beautiful people can still get along with each other, no matter what their sexual orientation.) We stayed for the party/reception afterward and chatted with a bunch of the filmmakers he knew, and people involved with the festival. All good stuff.
Tuesday: Phonecall and email from my friend and escort from the night before, saying that someone he knows is in need of an editor for a film that’s been chain-sawed together and needs some finish work. I sent out my resumé and demo. Turns out that the film is pre-cut on an AVID system, which I’m not familiar enough with (I’m an FCP boy), so I passed the notice on to other editors I know in town.
Wednesday: Kitten alerted me that there’ll be a screening of a movie titled Passengers with Anne Hathaway. Basically I show up and watch the movie, and then over a provided cocktail I fill out a short survey about the movie, and perhaps schmooze a little.
Thursday: A colleague of mine who also used to work for my old company in DC is now an editor/producer on Dancing With The Stars. We’re gonna meet up for beer and nachos and catch up.
Friday: I’ve decided. I’m going to DisneyLand for the first time! Yeah! I’ll be there with a bunch of guys from San Diego and L.A. and I’m looking forward to getting to know them better. One is what some might call an “old pro” with Disneyland, knowing exactly how to squeeze every last drop of fun out of a day there by avoiding the longest lines. Must. Take. Pictures.
I think that’s pretty good! Considering how inert I’ve been up until this point. Now if I can only justify the expense of LazyBear next week as a “networking opportunity”. Can I? Can I?
On this day...
