The week was a bit blurry, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t at least try to hit some of the highlights:
‣Caught a taping of Jay Leno. Samuel Jackson and some kid with a bunch of reptiles. Brilliant. Afterwards we got invited to a screening of a new Kevin Bacon movie, with critique afterward, but it got cancelled.
‣A day at Six Flags. Totally scratched our coaster itch on some mad loopz, yo.
‣Venice Beach. If you recall the opening credits of early Three’s Company episodes when they’re on bikes, then you’ve seen Venice. Lots of characters walking around buying things, selling things, muscle beach, ocean. We opted for massages and a sunset dinner with old friends.
‣Saturday morning we were off to Vegas! a four-hour drive through the desert, enjoying the view and the company. Mad hot, yo! Like, over 100˚ and so dry. A mid-afternoon meal with Billy-Boy, a quick refresh, and then Cirque. Very pretty! We had perfect front loge seats. Highly recommended.
‣Fremont street. Do you know about this? It’s the “old strip” of casinos (Golden Nugget, etc), and about 3 blocks are blocked off for foot traffic, covered by what turns out to be a canopy of LED lights. Whist sharing a cocktail served inexplicably in a plastic football, we found entertainment in a Journey coverband, a spherical cage in which three motorcyclists attempted to not collide, and the canopy itself decided to show us depictions of scantily-clad women dancing and writhing around in digital flame, accompanied by more classic rock. In a word: perfect.
‣Some middle-of-the-night roulette allowed us to further catch up with Billy- Boy before scurrying off to our room before sunrise. Sunday was gift-shopping and roaming about Circus-Circus, where there were circus acts, midway games, and an entire domed amusement park. Love. At midnight, Kitten’s phone started beeping, and he leaned over and gave me a birthday kiss.
‣Monday’s meander back through the desert took us outlet shopping (Daddy needed a new pair of shoes), and closer to L.A. we detoured through the San Gabriel Mountains. VERY pretty, but closed roads forced us back on the beaten path.
Poor Kitten got to the airport Tuesday at noon, but his one layover in Dallas had such poor weather he had to spend the entire day/night in the airport, arriving home 24 hours later. Grrr. Note to self: only non-stops from now on.
Thanks to all who sent cards and gifts and well-wishes for my day. Where are you with 37? It’s sort of that grey area between mid- and late-thirties. Oh boysee, yet another indicator that it’s a transitional year.
Oh, and another thing that I brought back from the desert: validation. My family and friends have always used kinds words of support, but this voice actually said things like “You’re on a good path. There are a couple obstacles in your way, but the job you want is coming. No need to worry.” My load became considerably lighter and I took in a much needed breath of confidence. Thank you Angels.
And now I’ve dived back into reality. Today’s challenge? Health Insurance. Does it need to be this complicated? Really? Is anyone into the new Michael Moore flick about it? I had no idea. Maybe I should work for an insurance company. Oy.
