Houa Lor - Music Mentor

My name is Houa Lor. I'm 15 years old, turning 16 December 27. I lived and was raised here in St. Paul. But i wasn't born here. I was born in Thailand. My parents brought me and my two sisters here to the U.S. in the early 1990s. I have two more sisters that were born here, a total of 4 sisters. I've been surrounded by music all my life. My parents would always sing to us when we were young. The radio would always be on no matter where we were. I started listening deeply to the words of poets. I said wow, i like the flow and the thoughts coming from them. I started writing my own poems. Most of them turned out to be raps. One time, my cousin and I took our friend Kao Choua Vue to work in 2005. She gave me a card from In Progress. She told me about open mic night and I attended my first live music event last December. In the summer of 2006, a close friend of mine told me to call In Progress. I spoke to Sai and she gave me information about a workshop. I attended the workshop but I wasn't really interested in filming as much as making music. Sai gave me the opportunity to work with music. I later attended a workshop at the High School for Recording Arts. I finished my very first music video. My work was screened at a film festival at the Walker Art Center. Now I'm working side by side with In Progress. And this is only the beginning.
I see myself as a student as well as a mentor or a teacher. My role is to learn as much about music production as possible and then share it with the people that are interested. To contact me just send me an email at houalor3805@yahoo.com. You can also reach me at the In Progress Studio every Saturday at 651-228-1271. mailto:houalor3805@yahoo.comshapeimage_1_link_0
